hey elle... im going to get gel nails done for prom in june and i wanted to know if you had to cut your nails completely down or do they put the gel on top of your natural nail?

I just wanted to say that I don't know about your salon but every salon I know here DOES file the nail bed for both acrylic AND gel nails! So either way when you want to get rid of them sooner than they would naturally grow out you would have "ruined" nails for a while. (Technically they are not ruined, they are just really thin and prone to damage from the filing-down, if done correctly of course.)
Also maybe we are speaking different gel technologies here, but my gel nails do NOT chip/break..
if your nails grow fast, why are you getting fake nails? it doesn't make sense, why not treat your natural nails and paint them how you want or even get a $10 manicure and save yourself $30. :/

Acrylics cost 20 and gels cost 25 where il from. I'm going to get gels tomorrow because I'm tired of acrylics and how they mess up my nails and are a pain to get off
you can get acrylics around where I live for like $22, but I have to say if you go tanning they will yellow.. I would just rip mine off after like a week so for me it was a waste

i use the broadway real life gel nail kit and I love it they last such a long time and they only cost about $10.00 at walmart!!! and it's great for beginners!

normally..gel nail have to be filed of - that way...your own nail is ruined..
acrylics you can soak them in nail polish remover...
You should try solar, its a lot better then acrylic, and gel. They're better for the nail too and last longer! I love them.
