I think that they are talking about natural hair meaning no weaves or extending of the hair just ur regular hair whether short or long but i say natural hair i mean no chemical relaxers. whatever ur born with that type of hair whether its kinky curly wavy watever lol
You know I been natural since a year ago and I am currently growing my hair with protective styles. AND you are so right. People can get mad all they want, but the straight hair thing started as a result of SELF HATE. We can't talk about it and I am not bashing those that relaxed but HISTORY does not lie. They never get to that part. STRAIGHT HAIR does not equal more styles, LIE. Why don't they talk about why in those days Blacks did it, to have hair like white people. That's the issue.
I've come to notice that white folks appreciate us with our natural hair, contrary to popular belief. I get more compliments from them, or just as many as from black folks, since I went natural.
Tyra did NOT wear her natural hair. That woman still had a relaxer (a relaxer is NOT natural). Longer, straighter hair being more versatile? BS. Non-straight/shorter hair not employable? BS. Women just need to admit that they wear weaves because they don't know WTF to do with their own real hair in it's NATURAL state because they don't want to take the time to learn because they'd rather look like cookie-cutter versions of each other and copy the bimboes they see in the media. Idiots. -_-
the mainstream. Women like varietyThat I know- I am a womanNow if only we could put as much energy into loving our community and ourselves as we do about the nonsense topics of irrelevance on you tube? Stay blessed
That does not make me judgmental, it makes me concerned and show that I careYOU responded and replied back with clarification as to what they stated on the post. Hence, I misinterpreted their initial response and went on a tangent. Honestly, I do not give a damn what a sister puts on or in her head, as long as she is doing it because she wants to and not because this is what is acceptable or because they are, spoon-feed that their identity is displeasing or unacceptable within
Are you for real? Your inquiry is silly. Of course, I am concerned about the well-being and self-esteem of Women within the African Diaspora, as it pertains to loving themselves and not caring what you, society or I dictate as a standard of beauty. I would want a sister to do the same for me, if I sound unsure or pessimistic about my natural beauty.
@AGoodWomanDiji, do you go around and interrogate every natural AND relaxed sister, as to why she chooses to do what she does? It's not for your to judge someone's level of self esteem.
I wish Whoopi could walk the streets of NYC & see that there is a LARGE presence of Black women with unprocessed natural hair. Kind of put off that she said it's rare to see weave-less black women. I would say common, but not "rare" .
I do agree with Sherrie that certain Corporate environments black naturals get a hard time for wearing their natural hair. The irony is that Meghan has extensions, as do MOST white women in my area (NYC)!
@Papillonmuscogee I agree. It is just a hair style, but the other side to that is sisters with natural hair are 'militant'. Yep. That idea still lives...
So she thinks having natural hair is similar to the hair of Don King? Maybe i misunderstood joy, but i thought that was the reference she used when describing her natural hair and being "like that". I have been natural for a little over 2 years and i love it!
Women who have hair should be glad that they have hair!
When I was in the hospital, my hair wouldn't grow! Now that my hair is growing, I am growing it long so that I can donate it to victims of diseases so that they can have a nice wig!
I agree with you AWANT2FIGHT.Hair is so..superficial. Just like a lot of things, like you said, it's a FASHION trend. Hell, back in the 70's white women would iron their hair, to get it straight straight, so it's not just a cultural thing all the time.
I think we make mistakes by assuming things. A lot of people are conservative with their hair styling and some, are more adventurous. We shouldn't classify those who choose relaxed styles as being brainwashed. This is what bothers me, and I'm natural!! Let's quit judging, one way or the other.
Joy Behar makes me sick..she thinks she knows so much and knows absolutley nothing..shows where they discuss why black women don't wear their natural hair just irritate me..they never get to the real issue because most people are afraid of the truth..I have been completely natural for 4 months now and it has made me want to go deeper and learn more about why we subject ourselves to changing who we are when who we are and how we were created is just fine..

Sherri looks super weird throwing her hair around like that.

My point exactly. To each her own.
