No, I totally understand, it does look that way, but I have heard it been explained so many times, it makes sense when you see it done a few times. By unified section I mean, It makes the strand come together, because sometimes you might have to use hair from different spirals of hair and when you brush it, they come together into one curl. Im not sure if I'm explaining it well.

And also it makes the curl look neater when you brush it together, helps get rid of some frizz.
